Brighton Opticians enjoy first Heidelberg OCT LIVE roadshow of 2017

Hemel Hempstead, UK – The Heidelberg Engineering Academy delivered their first OCT LIVE roadshow of the year in Brighton on Tuesday 17th January to a fully booked room of 60 optometrists and dispensing opticians. Local optometrist Steven Borkum, from Peter Marson Optometrists, arranged for three of his patients to be scanned on the SPECTRALIS Imaging Platform live on the big screen. The patient volunteers exhibited wet AMD (image a), myopic macular schisis and epiretinal membrane (image b) and asymptomatic chorioretinal scar (image c). Ed Hughes, local Consultant Ophthalmologist from Sussex Eye Hospital gave delegates an insight into the cases, as well as the referral pathways.

“All of the live scans were clear, informative and interesting. It’s amazing to be able to get that kind of scan so quickly and easily” said Lesley Sones, Optometrist from Scrivens Opticians. “The live demonstrations were genius! Much better than looking at old scans” added Samantha Theventhiran, optometrist from Specsavers Brighton.

Each OCT LIVE event is worth 3 CET points to both optometrists and dispensing opticians and is designed to build the eye care professional’s confidence in OCT image interpretation and patient management.
