Heidelberg Engineering has been shortlisted for Optician Journal’s Technology Supplier of the Year Award. Companies who have reached this stage have been selected based on the rigorous criteria laid out by the journal –
“The panel of judges looks for suppliers to the retail optical business who can showcase excellence of product, commissioning, and training but more importantly patient care. The judges will want to hear the entrants’ strategy for provision of technology and the clinical and business needs met, and how they have exceeded customer expectations.”
Attracting entries from a diverse range of companies supplying High Street opticians and supporting the professional skills of optometrists, competition for the title is fierce. The Heidelberg Engineering team, which provides highly accurate and reproducible OCT and confocal fundus imaging technology, provided details of how the optical professional has been supported with technical and business advice, ongoing world class education, and clinical guidance, which is helping to improve the standard of eye care throughout the UK –
“When the country locked down due to COVID-19 in 2020, rather than shut operations down, we decided to use the time as an opportunity to support and give back to our customers, many of whom were still delivering essential services during the pandemic,” explains Emily Malbon, Head of UK Marketing and Education, Heidelberg Engineering Ltd. “Since April 2020, we have delivered 30 free-to-attend live webinars and awarded 4091 CET points to 2080 optometrists and dispensing opticians. We received fantastic feedback from participants, many of whom told us our webinars gave them something useful to look forward to during the dark days of the pandemic. We also supported our SPECTRALIS customers during the pandemic by giving them a payment break on their maintenance contracts, offering free virtual training sessions on glaucoma management using OCT, and supplying a free breath shield for every SPECTRALIS OCT.”
Testimonials from Heidelberg Engineering UK customers were a major factor in the company being shortlisted. The regard in which the company is held was demonstrated by comments from the profession. Don Williams, optometrist and practice Director of Edgbaston Eye Clinic in Birmingham, expressed the view of many –
“I have had excellent service from Heidelberg Engineering. The ongoing support is fantastic. I have attended many of their lectures and am always mesmerised by the knowledge of the clinical team. I couldn’t have chosen a better company. For me, it is plain and simple: Heidelberg Engineering provide a ‘blueprint’ of how real customer service is and how it should be.”
